Liviu Rebreanu(b. November 27, 1885, Târlișua, Austria-Hungary - d. September 1, 1944, Valea Mare-Podgoria, Ștefănești, Argeș, Romania) was a Romanian prose writer and playwright, a member of the Romanian Academy.
Liviu Rebreanu was born on November 27, 1885 in the village of Târlișua (from the former Solnoc Dăbâca county - today Bistrița-Năsăud county), being the first of the 14 children of the teacher Vasile Rebreanu and Ludovica (born Diuganu). In her youth, his mother (1865/1945) was passionate about theater, being considered the "first amateur" on the stage of her native Beclean. Both parents are the models of the Herdelea family that appears in "Ion", "Răscoala", "Gorila", etc.
In 1889 the Rebreanu family moved to "Maieru" commune, on the "Someșului Mare" valley. According to the writer: In Maieru I lived the most beautiful and happiest days of my life. Until, when I was ten years old, I had to go to Năsăud, to high school.
In his drawer writings, at first in Hungarian, and then in Romanian, many childhood memories bring to the fore the people of these places. Although located in the imaginary Pripas (identified by researchers with the old village of Prislop, today, a suburb of Năsăud, where Liviu Rebreanu later lived), some episodes from Ion have preserved the toponymic and onomastic framework of Maieru (The Nest of Dreams, as it is entitled in one of the stories published by the writer).
